Old Time Rhythm Guitar - Kenneth Johnson
This class is for the guitar player who can change chords quick enough to back up old time fiddle tunes close to dance tempo. This class will help you refine the basic "boom chuck" to include tastful bass patterns that put emphases squarely on the downbeat.
You will learn several powerful bass runs that connect all the chords together to make an ensemble more driving and dynamic. Focusing on the styles of Riley Puckett, John Dilleshaw, Lee Henderson, Clyde Evans, Paul sutphin, Gene Meade and others, with a historical overview of old time guitar styles that will provide a context for which to explore your own creativity.
The class will provide a fiddler and vocalist to create the opportunity to use the methods that are being reviewed. The class will provide you with the techniques that add texture in string band roles, support vocal and stand alone roles, and accomadate fiddle tunes.
The cost for the class is $50
The cost for the class for a student or a current SEBA member is $45
The cost for the class with a new SEBA E-membership is $60

Kenneth, over the last 12 years has performed and recorded extensively throughout the southeast with old-time string bands, the Pea Ridge Ramblers, Old Time Serenaders, Roan Mountain Hilltoppers, and currently the Georgia Crackers.
Kenneth has played at the Opry Plaza Series in Nashville, as well as the legendary Station Inn. and the Chicago Folk Festival. Kenneth was once employed as a Street Musician at Stone Mountain Park, and was program director and Disc Jockey for the " Blue Plate Special" traditional music program on WMLB in Cumming, GA. for 3 years.
He also helped to organized the Great South Old Time Music Convention and Harlens Old Time Jamboree, and he is a much sought after, back up rythym guitarist at fiddler conventions and contests by competing fiddlers.
