CD FEATURES PERFORMERS AT 2012 BEAR FESTIVAL
The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival has produced its first CD, which features performers from last year's event. The CD was introduced at the 16th annual Bear on the Square Festival and will continue to be on sale this year.
Entitled "Bear on the Square 2012", the album is priced at $12 and includes one song each from Ugly Cousin, John Lilly, Whitepath, Curley Maple, Glenda Pender, The Rosin Sisters, the Pick & Bow Band, The Georgia Crackers, Curtis Jones with Insonnia, the Packway Handle Band, the Buzzard Mountain Boys, and John Grimm & Beverly Smith. All proceeds will go to help pay festival expenses. Shipping is included in the price. The CD will also be sold at Bear on the Square merchandise locations during the Festival.
"This project is something people have been asking us to do, and I have to say that the result is an impressive compilation of songs and musicians," said Glenda Pender, president of Bear on the Square. |

Support Bear on the Square with a Sponsorship
The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival brings thousands of visitors to Dahlonega the third weekend in April each year. The event not only helps preserve and promote the traditional music, crafts and lifestyle of the North Georgia and Southern Appalachian mountain region, it also provides a tremendous boost to the local economy, giving added exposure to an area already known for being one of the region's leading tourism destinations, and it embellishes our area's reputation as a centerpiece for cultural activities.
To produce a festival of this scale every year requires a tremendous amount of time from local volunteers and, of course, money. In addition to our loyal contingent of volunteers, we're in need of financial support to help cover the costs of presenting the yearly festivities. Sponsorships are one of the most important sources of this funding and a critical part of accomplishing our mission of helping preserve the culture of the Southern Appalachians.
Those businesses, organizations and individuals interested in helping present the 16th annual Bear on the Square through the purchase of a sponsorship are encouraged to contact Richard Davidow, who heads up the festival's Sponsor Opportunities effort, as soon as possible.
Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, Inc., which stages the festival each year, is a 501©3 not-for-profit cultural arts organization whose mission is to preserve and celebrate the culture of the Southern Appalachians through the presentation of music, traditional craft, and folkways. Tax deductible donations are welcomed and can be sent to P. O. Box 338, Dahlonega, GA 30533.

For more than two decades from the time he moved to Dahlonega in 1983 until his death in 2004, Nick Pender was a major force in the North Georgia bluegrass scene. In 1996, Nick and his wife Glenda were co-founders, along with several downtown merchants, of the annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival. Nick and Glenda developed the entire music program for the event. The Pender family continues to support the festival with children and grandchildren taking part in the event in various ways and Glenda serving as president and music chair.
